About This Position

Position Overview The Project Manager owns the financial, contractual, and customer-facing success of assigned utility construction projects. This role ensures scope, schedule, cost, change orders, and customer communication are managed with discipline and clarity while maintaining proactive risk visibility, forecast accuracy, and dependable project execution. The Project Manager partners closely with the Operations Manager and Superintendent to maintain schedule integrity, near-term readiness, and strong field alignment so projects are executed safely, efficiently, and according to plan. This role protects margin, entitlement, cash flow, and customer trust through disciplined forecasting, billing control, change order execution, documentation accuracy, and early identification of risks, delays, and scope gaps before they impact schedule, margin, or customer confidence. Position Responsibilities The Project Manager is responsible for managing assigned utility construction projects from planning and execution through closeout while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, financial performance, schedule, and customer satisfaction. Financial & Cost Management Own project financial performance, including margin protection, cost control, and cash flow awareness. Track project costs regularly and identify potential variances, fade, or cost exposure early. Maintain accurate cost-to-complete forecasting and revenue projections. Ensure project billing is accurate, timely, fully supported, and converted within the required billing cycle. Monitor project financial performance and take appropriate action to address unfavorable trends. Review WIP, percent-complete, production quantities, and forecasting inputs against actual field performance. Contract Administration Maintain a clear understanding of project scope, contract requirements, specifications, and obligations. Capture, document, price, and submit scope changes accurately and in a timely manner. Ensure compliance with contract terms, including notice requirements and documentation standards. Protect company entitlement through accurate documentation and proactive communication. Identify field-driven inefficiencies, delays, owner-caused impacts, and scope gaps early to preserve claims and change-order entitlement. Ensure complete understanding of project scope through handoff meetings, document reviews, and site walkthroughs before execution. Project Planning & Scheduling Develop, maintain, and actively manage project schedules in alignment with field execution plans. Coordinate with Superintendents to ensure crews have clear direction and constructible work. Ensure materials, permits, locates, subcontractors, inspections, and other project requirements are coordinated in advance. Identify risks, delays, scope gaps, and readiness constraints early and develop mitigation and contingency plans. Review upcoming work with Superintendents and Operations regularly to maintain near-term readiness and milestone recovery plans. Monitor project milestones and take appropriate action to maintain schedule performance. Customer Communication Serve as the primary customer contact for project updates, coordination, and issue resolution. Maintain consistent communication regarding project status, risks, schedule expectations, and changes. Provide professional and timely responses to customer inquiries. Provide proactive customer updates regarding schedule status, risks, change items, and recovery actions. Maintain strong customer relationships and work to build long-term customer confidence and repeat business. Field Coordination Partner closely with Superintendents and the Operations Manager to align schedule, production, resources, and project priorities. Maintain active awareness of field conditions, risks, production performance, and readiness barriers through regular project and field engagement. Support field leadership in removing barriers that impact project progress. Ensure office and field teams remain aligned regarding project scope, schedule, production, and customer requirements. Participate in project and customer site visits as required.
