The drill operator runs the rig itself — steering the head off the locator, reading pressures and rod torque, and keeping the bore on the designed line and grade. It is the seat that decides whether a shot lands clean or cross-bores something. Hiring contractors look for hours on a specific rig class, comfort in the ground conditions of the region, and a clean locate and damage record.
